The Carmelites of Mary Immaculate (CMI) has a luminous history and a prestigious tradition. Its history is inevitably the realization of the noble vision of the founder of the Congregation Blessed Chavara Kuriakose Elias and its co-founder Rev. Fr. Thomas Porukara. Right from its inception in1831,the congregation found education as one of the principal avenues of their apostolate and had been vouchsafed to radiate traditional Indian values of the great sages among the people. The establishment of Monasteries and Viharas (‘Pallikkoodangal’) were the realization of their sacred vision (‘Darshan’) throughout the country.
Porukara College of Education inaugurated on fifth September 2005 at Champakulam is an offshoot of CMI Higher Educational Institutions intended to prepare competent teachers for the secondary/higher secondary schools in Kerala and elsewhere in the world around. It is a self-financed religious minority institution. It is recognized by the National Council For Teacher Education (NCTE) (Order No.1478) and is affiliated to the Mahatma Gandhi University (Order No.Ac.A.VII/I/2613/2006 Dated :28-09-2006) Kottayam, Kerala. It comes under the jurisdiction of Deputy Director of Collegiate Education, Alappuzha.
Porukara College of Education, Champakulam is owned by Gagultha Monastery of the Carmelites of Mary Immaculate (CMI), Religious Congregation, St. Joseph Province, Thiruvananthapuram and is an integral part of the vast network of CMI Educational institutions, spread across the country and abroad.
The motto of our college is "That All May Be One". As Jesus Christ who called upon his disciples to be the ‘light of the world and the salt of the earth’, it is envisioned that this institution, the teachers and the trainees would become a luminous presence in the educational scenario of the third millennium.

| Vision, Mission and Values
|
|
The College with the motto "That All May be One" was established in 2005 as a minority community institution to train teachers for secondary schools. Following the footsteps of our supreme guru, Jesus Christ who called upon his disciples to be “the light of the world and the salt of the earth” it is envisioned that this institution, the teachers and the trainees would become a luminous presence in the educational scenario of the third millennium. Just like the “salt” it has to impart a new taste and flavor and preserve intact the integrity of the lives of thousands of trainees who would pass through the portals of this institution. We accept this as a mission need of the hour and as a challenge paused by the 21st century.
